Want to Create an ID Photo with a Selfie? Here's What You Need to Know π±
"I need to get an ID photo taken at a studio⦠but I don't have the time, and what if it turns out weird?"
Have you ever had these concerns? These days, many people are creating AI ID photos with just a single smartphone selfie.
But if you upload just any selfie, the results might turn out stranger than you expect.
I'm a Han Researcher, a hair and makeup artist, and have been running a photo studio for over 10 years.
Based on my experience of seeing thousands of ID photos in the field, I'll tell you how to take selfies that produce great AI ID photos.

π 1. Take the Photo in the Brightest Spot at Home
Taking a photo directly in front of a window can create backlighting or result in an overexposed image, which can be counterproductive. Find a naturally bright spot next to a window or inside your home.
A place where shadows don't form on your face is sufficient. A place with softly diffused natural light is best.
π 2. Camera Slightly Below Eye Level
Some people tilt their heads down too much or hold the camera too high, hoping their face will look slimmer.
But AI ID photos are edited anyway, so you don't need to overdo it. Simply positioning the camera slightly below your eye level will create a natural and neat impression.
π 3. Facial Expression Appropriate for the Job
If you're applying for a customer service or airline job, where a bright impression is important, a slight smile showing your teeth is good.
Otherwise, keeping your mouth closed and smiling lightly with your eyes will look the most natural.
If you're usually concerned about facial asymmetry, don't worry too much because AI will correct it naturally π

π 4. Background: In Front of a Plain, Light-Colored Wall
Complex backgrounds are difficult for AI to process, and the results can look cluttered. Taking the photo in front of a white wall or a light-colored plain wall will produce a much cleaner result.
It's also important to tidy up and make sure no objects are visible behind you.
π 5. Recommended Clothing: Simple Shirt Without a Collar
Hoodies can create shadows on the neckline, and the thick hood part can look unnatural in the photo.
A simple round-neck or V-neck shirt without a collar will look the most natural.
Since Monkos.ai will change your outfit to business attire anyway, you don't need to worry too much π

### π 6. Makeup: One Step Lighter Than Usual
This is the most important point. Makeup often appears more intense after AI editing.
Pay special attention to the following:
- Over-lined or glossy lips can look excessive in the photo
- Avoid dark MLBB (My Lips But Better) colored lipsticks
- If the shading around your eyes is too heavy, it can make you look darker and heavier in the photo
It's best to apply your makeup one step lighter than usual, especially using lighter shades for your lips and eye makeup.
(Recommendations based on the on-site experience of a hair/makeup artist & photographer π‘)
