Online National ID Card Reissuance: Now Available From Home! + Photo Preparation Tips

Hello! This is Monk Studio.
Have you ever experienced something like this?
"I went to the community center to get my national ID card reissued, but it was closed for lunch..."
"I took a photo and went all the way to the community center, but the line was too long..."
I've been there too. But things have changed now.
You no longer have to visit in person to reissue your national ID card!
And as of 2026, you can even use a mobile national ID card.
Today, I'll walk you through everything from how to reissue online, photo specifications, and where to take photos so you don't get rejected!
**1. How do I reissue my national ID card online?**
You can apply at Government 24 (www.gov.kr).
Loss, damage, changes to recorded information (moving, name change, etc.)—all reasons can be applied for online.
- What you need
Joint certificate or simple authentication (Kakao, PASS, Naver, etc.)
Photo file (JPG/PNG, standard photo)
Fee of ₩5,000 (card payment available)
※ Free if you return a national ID card issued before November 1, 2006
* [x] Application process
STEP 1. Access Government 24 → Log in (joint certificate or simple authentication)
STEP 2. Search for 'National ID Card Reissuance' → Fill out the application form
STEP 3. Attach photo file (← This step is key! I'll explain it in detail below)
STEP 4. Specify the receiving agency (any community center nationwide is OK)
STEP 5. Pay the fee
STEP 6. Receive a text message in about 2-3 weeks → Pick up at the designated community center
The advantage of applying online: Since you upload a high-quality photo file directly, you can receive a national ID card with a clearer and prettier photo than applying in person!

2. Mobile National ID Card is also available! (Expanded nationwide in 2025, available as of 2026)
Mobile national ID card issuance has been expanded nationwide since March 2025!
Eligibility: Anyone aged 17 or older who has a national ID card
Legal effect: Same as a physical national ID card
Where can I use it? Can be used the same as physical cards in public institutions, financial institutions, hospitals, airports, convenience stores, etc.
Personal information protection function: Can selectively provide only necessary information (without exposing the entire resident registration number!)
#### **Two Issuance Methods**
Method 1] QR Issuance (free, valid for 3 years)
Visit a nearby community center → Fill out the application form → Scan the QR code with the 'Mobile ID' app
Disadvantage: Re-visit required when replacing/losing smartphone
Method 2] IC National ID Card Issuance (₩10,000, semi-permanent)
Apply for IC national ID card reissuance at Government 24 or community center
After receiving, tag with the app to complete the mobile national ID card
Advantage: Can be reissued directly even if you change your phone!
**3. [Important!] Photo Specifications—Many people get this wrong**
Many people are rejected due to photos when applying online.
If the photo does not meet the requirements, the application itself may be rejected, or issuance may be refused upon receipt, so be sure to check!
**National ID Card Photo Specifications**
Size: 3.5cm wide × 4.5cm long (aspect ratio is important online!)
Time of shooting: Photo taken within 6 months
Background: White or light solid color background recommended
Face direction: Front, eyes facing forward
Expression: Natural expression with mouth closed
Hat/glasses: Not allowed (tinted glasses, sunglasses not allowed)
Upper body photo: Includes the entire face + neck + about half of the shoulder line
**Types of Photos that are Rejected**
Photos with light reflected on the eyeglass lenses
Photos with eyebrows or facial contours covered by hair
Side pose or head tilt
Image correction/AI synthesized photos (difficult to verify identity)
Photos using stickers or filters
Photos taken more than 6 months ago
#### **!!! Especially be careful !!!**
If the size (pixels) of the photo file you upload online is too large, a system error will occur. When uploading to Government 24, an error message "Image width/height is too large" often appears, In this case, you need to reduce the photo file size and upload it again.

**4. Where should I take photos to avoid rejection?**
Just a moment! Many people think that if you take it at a photo studio, it's all OK...
In fact, photo quality is as important as photo specifications.
The photo files you submit online are checked much more clearly than physical photos.
There is a service I would like to introduce to those who say, "Do I really have to go to a photo studio to take ID photos?"
***
**MONKOS AI ID Photo: ID photos at the level of a photo studio from home**
MONKOS is an AI ID photo service created by Monk Studio.
Some people ask, "If it's an AI photo, won't it be rejected at the community center?"
But MONKOS is fundamentally different from other AI photo services!

- Why MONKOS is different
"Instead of AI creating the photo, AI corrects and cuts the photo you took yourself to fit the specifications."
In other words,
I take the picture myself! (Self-shooting with a smartphone)
AI only does correction and formatting!
Therefore,
AI does not create or synthesize a new face
No deepfake concerns
Can be used as a photo for submission to national ID card, passport, and driver's license
No need to worry about community center rejection!
Think of it as taking a photo in the same way as going to a photo studio, but AI refines it like an expert.
* [x] **How to use MONKOS**
STEP 1. Take a selfie with your smartphone (set pose and background according to the app guide)
STEP 2. Upload photo
STEP 3. AI correction + specification matching
STEP 4. Download the completed photo → Use it directly for uploading to Government 24!
* [x] Recommended for these people * Those who plan to reissue their national ID card/passport/driver's license * Those who are preparing for a job (resume photos at once!) * Those who don't have time to go to a photo studio * Those who are burdened by photo studio prices (average ₩25,000 ~ ₩40,000) * Those who have had a bad experience with photo studio photos
